Heartbreak is everywhere..

The latest in my long, long list of Facebook addictions is Social City, where you basically build your own city with

houses,

parks and various amusement centres for your residents

with money made from your factories.

Pretty routine stuff. Until the day the Water Tower arrived.

With a lone chap sitting on it. People wondered if he was alright up there.

Till a coupla days later (whew, talk about girls taking ages to get ready!) he was joined by a young lady.

Everything seemed fine, the flowers bloomed brighter, the fountains danced

till SUDDENLY!!!

Disaster struck!

And she slipped off the edge!

But he grabbed her hand just in time!

And so they swung there for a coupla more days

in spite of the fire station I had built, where the firemen were manically scrubbing their fire truck.

At long last, help arrived!

But in the true fashion of Social City, the chopper too hovered for several days

till it ran out of fuel and crashed, killing everyone.

The End.

I was rolling out chapatis

the normal round (okay roundish!) way, when I rolled one a little too big.

And tried to trim it to a smaller circle…and went all knife-happy till it turned out like this:

Pet Society Fishing Bait List

I’m here blogging! While fighting on Sorority Life, trying to score the next 137 points to the next level. And minum ~~sambil menyelam~~ kopi mixed with nestum. Yum! And watching the season finale of Grey’s Anatomy. So far so good, Izzy might lose her memory and there’s some guy who wants to get his leg lopped off so that he can go fight in Iraq (go figure!) Selendang/ Dupatta ishtyle

Early in the morning, when the brain hasn't started functioning, the hands fumble, the legs stumble and the lips crack when you try to smile at yourself in the mirror, it's impossible (for me lah) to tie anything more complicated than a tudong. But today, I ~~couldn't find a matching tudong~~ wanted to try a selendang or dupatta. And ended up winding it round my head and pinning it in random areas with multiple pins. Aii.

Enter Mrs Yasmin, the supertalented teacher who does super-ishtyle selendang tying! I called for F1 and she whisked me away to the ladies' loo and unpinned and re-pinned and even returned a spare pin when she was done :D I'm too malu to post up the before picture hehe, but here's the finished product:

Ok lah I tipu...this was after 5 hrs of running around school and it's shifted a bit but still lawa.

How? My agak-agak instructions:

Step 1: Pin it as usual under the chin with one side short and one side long

More or less like this

Step 2: Flip the shorter side to the back

Why so serious?

Step 3: Pick up the corner of the longer end in front

Step 4: Bring it round to the back of your head, the same side as the shorter end.

Step 5: Pin it in place to your ponytail/bun/skullcap/whatever holds.

Easy or not? I blog fast-fast so that next time I wont forget how hehe

And now back to work. *sigh*

I met my ex-student at the ICT taklimat, she's a teacher now too! And another exstudent Azrina but no pic lah.

This is another true tail of a cat and mouse. When I got home from my month long trip, I found signs of mouse break-in. So I bought 2 rat glue traps and placed one in the kitchen and one in the loo. And some food in them. In the morning, food hilang and trap empty.

To add insult to injury, the mouse left a souvenir.

Mice are actually pretty intelligent, and contrary to popular manufacturer's opinion, they aren't blind! Yeah, the trap is cute with cartoon mice getting stuck. But its enough to give the mice a pretty good idea what will happen to them if they step on the trap!

So, I tried a different tactic. I kidnapped a cat.

A slightly scrawny stray but seriously NICE! Most house cats arent as well behaved! I fed her and let her wander around the house while I got back to playing Pet Society heheh. Suddenly, there was a blood curdling screech. I zoomed out only to find:

Trying desperately to chew off the glue from the mouse trap.

I couldn't believe that the trap that couldn't catch a tiny mouse managed to snag a whole cat!

Before anyone calls the RSPCA, the cat is none the worse for her little misadventure. We managed to remove the mouse trap glue together with a little vegetable oil from the kitchen and a lot of patience, trust and saliva from the cat.

On the bright side, the kidnapped cat visits often enough to scare mice away.

Holiday Home Work Part 1

Meh. So, I figured I would lug up the 7 litres of pink paint that's been sitting in the trunk of my car since last year - and paint my room PINK and WHITE! Not supercute stripes macam Xiaxue's Princess room lah, a blue and purple striped living room is more than enough stripes for me.

But first, decluttering! I have a crazy number of handbags, clothes, accessories, etc. And in Brunei, it's not easy (but not impossible) to find "poor" people, let alone any who'd want another pink handbag :P So I turned to google and searched for "Brunei donate clothes to" and BINGO! Brunei's No. 1 Social News had blogged about the SMARTER Shop in Bandar, behind HSBC in the Wisma building, where they accept 2nd hand stuff and sell it at superlow prices and all proceeds go to SMARTER!

So I dug through my closet and unearthed a few tops.

Very random bunch of pictures in very un-chronological order. While I still have access to a PC :P The first one is from the assessment test week. The poor kids can't leave their place from anything between 30 mins to an hour. No storybooks allowed, no drawing, no talking, no fidgeting, no anything even remotely entertaining. And most of them finish their tests in 10 mins. And get creative!

Next is seashells from a trip to Muara beach with Basit. The beach was full of driftwood and not very lawa. Didn't take any pictures since I'd stupidly left my phone in the car. So sayang cos while walking along the shore, we came across a shell with the inhabitant intact and crawling around on long, creepy-looking legs!

And we found what Basit insists is a human bone (the thicker bit between wrist and elbow..radius kah?) which he flung back to see. Eee. It wasn't a totally creepy trip though, as we were leaving, we saw fireworks..from a cruise ship which had just left the port! Macam movie!

Baby Octopus...fourth!

Fourth never-done-before-thing accomplished! Cp, CK and I went for sushi at Excapade while they were having an HSBC promo.

As usual, our regular dish...the Dragon Roll. Nothing very dragony about it, though only the Japanese can come up with a dish that combines eel, prawn roe, apple, asparagus and avocado all rolled in egg- and make it taste great!

Very yummy!

Next, for my first time ever, baby octopus! CP had previously described it as "put in in your mouth and when you bite through the head, the juice comes out...". Sounds more like a giant munching on babies!

It was soooooo yummy...didnt have weird juices popping out of the head, but very, very nice!

No fair, my octopus only had 5 luscious, crunchy legs!

I cant remember the name of this one...sushi roll with eel inside, I think. And raw salmon outside the rice, topped with seaweed. Yummy but not as nice as the Dragon Roll.

Still, paper won't burn meh?

Can't believe I havent blogged since Halloween! My renewed ~~chinese~~ new year resolution: BLOG more frequently. Erm. All I seem to do is kaypohx2 go and read other people's blogs hehe

Looks like a happy couple, right?

Actually there's a whole hoard of new year resolutions...lose 10kg, drink more green tea, lose 10kg, get CP married off, lose 10kg, stay single, lose 10kg, etc. Only I can't remember most of them so technically it isn't my fault if I don't stick to them. Plus I've promised myself that I'd do 27 things I've never done before. Before I turn 28 21 this year.

And so far I've done 2. Not terribly exciting, but "new" things nonetheless:

1. Baked my first roast chicken on Sunday.

And it was supernice! *yay*

Speaking of baked chicken, ever notice that the 'B' and 'N' keys on your keyboard are placed treacherously close to each other? So if typing in a hurry...

Me : Baked!! BAKED chicken!!

Erm.

2. Used the men's loo. Though technically it's just the boy's toilet and tucked away in the darkest corner of the top floor - right next to the lab. And there wasn't anyone in school...I was slogging away after hours on the website and after all that green tea (see new year resolution), I REALLY had to go. One of the doors led to the loo with the urinals. Just like on TV! The other door had 2 cubicles, not as clean, but otherwise identical to the girls' loo. Nothing special. Meh.

Two down, 25 to go. Sleepy liao. But can't leave my blog so pictureless, so here's a pic of Mr Lem Bu.

Dandiya Raas Celebration

We'd waited a whole year for the Dandiya Raas (stick dance)...this year it was held at the IPA in Rimba.

Dr Lungi's 7 tips on healing from a torn lungi

Even the strongest lungi can RRRRRIIIIIIPPPPPPPPP when you least expect it, no matter how well you jaga it. Small holes are normal, they give your lungi character and make you love it all the more. But tiny rips, if left alone, get larger with each wash and soon

you're left with a fishing net, rather than a lungi.

And not the sexy kind.

Some people even get their lungi STOLEN from them! Though that's a whole other chapter altogether.

So here's what to do, if the rip is a little too large to hide or mend:

1) Go ahead, cry buckets

Well, it was your favourite lungi and you loved it and to you, it was perfect; the perfect material, the perfect colour, perfectly comfy. Often, it takes months or years of washing and wearing before a lungi becomes this good.

When you finally find it, you think that it's yours forever. Then one day, you lovingly hang it out to dry and there's a hole so wide, the neighbourhood cats are leaping merrily through it.

Wheeeee!

It's so painful, it's enough to make anyone give up on ever finding another perfect lungi!

So cry your eyeballs out,

mourn the loss of your perfect lungi and eventually (feels like bloody ages, really!) you'll feel better.

Don't overdo it though, no amount of tears will ever bring your lungi back to you. If it's any consolation, your lungi is probably torn too :P~

2) Gather your girlfriends and/or wives

They're like tough, faded and comfy jeans, they'll probably be around longer than any old lungi can. They'll listen to you weep and remind you that they'd advised you against buying the lungi in the first place.

They'll tell you that the colour never really suited you anyway, and offer to shop for a new one with you!

Hey hey you you, I don't like your lungi!

No way, no way I think you need a new one!

3) Remove lungi reminders
Dont keep the torn lungi lying around. It doesn't do you or the lungi any good, and takes up space for a new lungi. Removing the lungi and everything that reminds you of it may help you forget sooner. There isn't much use getting upset, the wearer and the lungi are usually both responsible for the ripppppppp.

4) Learn to let go
You'll probably hurt really badly, but dwelling on the past will only make you feel worse. You spent every moment away from work lounging with your lungi, the best parts of your day were with your lungi. You cooked with your lungi, ate with your lungi, watched tv with your lungi, face it, you LOVED your lungi - and suddenly it's gone.

That kind of gaping hole in your life is hard to fill.

The only lungi that can make you stop crying is the reason why you're crying in the first place.

The best is not to think about the lungi too much, time heals everything. Yeah right, if that were true, time would heal the torn lungi, right? *sigh* But eventually you'll move on and start remembering the good parts of the lungi-wearer relationship. Try not to regret. Of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these,

"It might have been."

5) Count your blessings
No matter how devastated you feel now, things WILL get better. Lots of people get on without their lungis. In fact, you're definitely much better off than being in the shoes of a person that

shares her lungi with another girl! Ugh!

Be thankful that the lungi did not pull a Britney and rip in public!

Learn from the whole experience, so that if you ever get another lungi, you'll learn to tie it more securely and take better care of it.

6) Get busy
There are other things in life, perhaps not as good as the perfect lungi, but still good.

Kids

Shoes. *ouch* Then again, maybe not :-(

7) Move on
If you've had too many lungis that just keep ripping, maybe a lungi just isnt for you. While a lungi can make you ecstatically happy, you can live without a lungi ;-)

Consider other options. Shorts, skirts, and if all else fails, begin a hot and heavy affair with a mawashi!

Approximately 30 feet in length when unwrapped, about two feet wide and weighing between eight and eleven pounds, it's guaranteed to help you get over the loss of your lungi!

How to make Kuih Mor (She bakes, she bakes!)

I usually don't cook for fun - the dishes and ingredients can sense my incompetence in the kitchen and I can hear them sniggering behind my back. This time, inspired by Ratatouille, I gave it a shot :)

Anyone can cook!

It's a monumental event when I, the undomestic goddess, attempt to bake Kuih Mor, with the recipe stolen from the blog of a girl named Serene. The kuih mors on her blog are professional models. Mine look like stray cats in comparison :P Anyway fold up your lungi and tuck it in securely, here's the recipe, lungi ishtyle.

KUIH MOR

Ingredients:

1 kg plain flour
454 grams of ghee (minyak sapi)
1 egg yolk
icing sugar (about 300 to 400 grams to coat the little balls)

Method:

1. Fry the flour in a wok (pan) on medium heat. That means you just flip the flour around in the wok so that it doesn't burn. No oil or anything. No, I don't know why, just follow lah. Then let the flour cool. Oh ya, preheat your oven to 190 degrees C. And I set the heating thingie to top and bottom.

2. Mix in the ghee and egg yolk and knead, knead, knead.

3. Then roll out little balls of dough and place them on a baking sheet on your baking tray. My first batch were a bit too big...should be slightly larger than a marble.

4. Bake for about 30 mins.

5. While they're baking, sift your icing sugar in a large bowl. I didnt have that sieve thingie, bought one the day after. but this did just fine. The icing sugar is for you to dip the baked balls in.

6. When the oven goes DING, remove the cookies.

7. Cool for a minute. Then put them in the icing sugar, coating each one well.

This was my first batch. If I'd gone on this way, it might have taken a week and a half to finish. The stupid dough seems neverending.

Shows no sign of reducing even after 2 batches!

So this time I got smarter and made more balls per batch.

When they're cool, put them in little airtight jars, I got mine for 90 cents at Utama. Ribbon and hearts optional, from photoshop.

And give them to someone you sayang =)

Before I start, this was supposed to be up about 2 weeks back but I got sick then very the busy, so here it is now:

Taken with my not-so-clear cameraphone at "Meet the Rakyat"on July 22nd. I was so busy trying to get a nice picture, so I didnt go to the front to shake hands. CP too...but she was like a few inches away, plus her Motorola camera is so nice!! And she got the whole thing on video. Oiiii...YOUTUBE!!

I took the whole morning off for myself, got 3 reasons to justify it some more:

1. Woke up too early

Awake before my 2 roosters this morning, which I think is a good reason to cry. IT'S SUNDAY MORNING! Hmm...just occurred to me that I should have called CP up immediately...perfect revenge for all those Sundays when she calls at 8 am (middle of the night to me!!) just because she's awake.

I'd to go out and "deliver mango", so since I was already out and it was too early for retail therapy, I suddenly headed for Muara beach :D

After the very, very stressful week, it felt wonderful to be AFK and just do nothing :-) Plus I hadn't been to the beach in ages, so it brought back fond memories of family trips, pepper chicken, playing in the sea, coffee in flasks for the adults and when we were exhausted, the trip home where Rasheed and I would bicker endlessly about who crossed the "middle line" separating our respective spaces in the back seat ;-)

Wonder what would we have done if there had been a third sibling? Probably tossed his/her hypothetical butt into the boot muahahaha :->

Anyway, maybe it was the heat, or maybe I was so happy :-), but suddenly everything started to look pretty!

Since I was all euphoric from the beach trip, I took the pretty way home. One of the roads leading off the highway goes past this fairycastle-like house. Complete with towers (originally blue-gray, which they recently painted an unfairy-like green) It's probably all the more appealing because it's partially hidden from view.

I thought I was the only one who treasured these short glimpses of the house, but found out that CP's been admiring it for ages too! Talk about coincidence.

We've been planning for ages to drive over "one of these holidays" and see for ourselves who lives there and what it looks like close up. Might ruin the mystery though :P

I had made a mug of chamomile tea and placed it on a bookshelf to sip while I curled up and read. Basit was sitting in the giant roller chair, laptopping away, when he decided to roll back and S T R E T C H...

The scene of the crime

It was a BLOODBATH...the tragedy unfolded as the six foot goliath ~~unintentionally~~ smashed his arm into a not-quite-six-inch-high defenceless coffee mug, knocking it clear off the shelf, and sent it plummeting to an early end.

Heartbreaking...

An eyewitness at the crime scene described the incident as "a shattering experience."

Never to hold coffee again

The victim was known among his peers as a smashing chap who was always full of beans. However, they declined to preserve his remains for sedimental value.

But speaking of Basit, I was chopping ladies fingers yesterday. Just wishful thinking, but wouldn't it be nice if we could click something to align the ladies fingers to one side for easy ~~decapitation~~ slicing? Like Microsoft Word's Align Left, Align Right, Center...

The mid year exams are finally over and I'm down to my last pile of papers to mark. On the whole, the kids did great...except for the PENGUIN question. They'd learned about the five groups of vertebrates (Mammals, Birds, Fish, Reptiles and Amphibians) ages ago. And you would think that ANYONE would know that a penguin is a bird! But noooooo.....

Once upon a time, in the quiet land of NearLimbangBorder, there lived a buncha cows and bulls.

Cows + Bull steering clear of traffic.

It never occured to them to moove anywhere, they were blissfully happy and spent all day just grazing and dozing. Or so it seemed...

Until one day, the White Cow overherd the Big Black Bull mumble sadly "I'm tired of being a bull. Perhaps I should head for greener pasteurs. I need a change :-("

"How cowardly!" snorted the White Cow.

"Don't yell at me...I'm still depressed" sobbed the Big Black Bull

"Huh...you're just milking that bullemia episode for all its worth!"

"It made me the laughing stock :-( I used to be a charging bull. Look at me now." he sobbed on.

"Yes, I remember, you nearly had a cow when they took away your credit card! But you were way pasture limit...so quit being so bull-headed now. You need to find a way to manure around your problems"

"I'm ready to bale...I dont see any udder way"

As a last resort the White Cow cried out "How cud you leave?! Didn't you promise me we would be together for heifer??"

He minced no words.

"You can argue till the cows come home...but I've made up my mind!"

Her mooving pleas fell on deaf ears. All she could do was sit back and pray for bovine intervention. The Big Black Bull put his life on steak and uddered the magic words...COWABUNGA!

He turned into a BullDozer.

I was so jobless last weekend since first wife was in Miri, second wife in Singapore and third wife in India. (Send in applications for position of fourth wife here :P) So I put up my new Ikea clock...and the old one looked so boring:

When we were and Form 5 and my Dad was our Physics teacher *cringe*, I'd to wear external braces/headgear for a whole month to fix my teeth. Which didn't help btw, my teeth still point in 32 different directions. Anyway my Dad happened to be teaching "Magnets" one day. And Queenie who sat beside me then drew a cartoon, signed it and gave it to me. Over ten years later, yellowed and wrinkled, here it is:

Also when Mrs A promised Chen Hao that she'd jump off the roof of our building if he got an A for his Bio...he didn't make it but we hadn't seen him study so hard since Primary 1 heheh!

This one's when CP and I were driving past RIPAS and we saw this BIG..uhh..vehicle (dunno what to call it? truck? scooter? heheh) with tinted windows. Luckily they had to stop at a red light so we took this:

And since we often give chase to anything that catches our attention, we zooooomed after it and tailed it to the junction and managed to stop at a red light...right behind it :D

Have to rush off in a bit, so here are some random pictures. First, real handmade patchwork quilts! I've only read about them, but this is the first time I've seen one. Saw them hanging on the clothesline at CP's place, her Grandmother made them, very very lawa!

Woke up early and headed for CP's place to pick her up. We'd agreed to meet at 10am SST (Siti Standard Time) , but she was still sleeping when I got there at 10.15, which isn't surprising because I'm NEVER early :D In fact, I average about 45-50 minutes late for just about everything. After breakfast at La Mee we went to the Ikea shop where we bought something very weird...pics up tomoro :->

Then off to UBD for the Japanese exhibition thingie. The first coupla booths were a little blah...like study in Japan, anime, Japanese technology (TV, video games, robot dog). The first interesting one was Origami.

There were 2 origami sumo wrestlers complete with wrestling ring.

And the Animal Kingdom plus a microphone...oops :P

With a big prosperity cat or "Maneki Neko", which is literally "beckoning cat". Its one of the most common lucky charms in Japan.

Then we went to the Tea Ceremony booth. There were 2 ladies there to "teach" us the art of drinking tea.

Japanese chicks are hot!

First, a sweet (cookie, actually) to sweeten your mouth since the green tea is slightly bitter.

Then our host (who has a Masters degree in Japanese Tea Ceremony, I didn't know that even existed!) mixed the tea with a wooden whisk thingie.

And served it in a pretty bowl with the flower facing me.

Then the bowl is to be placed in my left palm, and turned twice clockwise, so that the flower faces the host. This is to show respect to the design. Then I've to drink the tea in 3 sips, turn the bowl back to face me and admire the flower :-)

Next was the Calligraphy Booth. We wrote our names in English and the lady painted them in Japanese. She's the wife of a Japanese ambassador and has a Masters in Japanese Calligraphy. The poor lady must have been writing all day but she was still SOOOO sweet and polite and graciously kept on painting.

Then they "frame" it with fluorescent paper and hand it to you.

The other booths were about traditional games, there was a guy spinning a top in front of the booth. Then Japanese festivals and events, language and a lucky draw thingie.

These are dolls that parents give their daughters.

And these fish are hung outside the house on children's day (may 5th which is on the 5th of may :P) if you have sons, for good health.

Went to the Damuan again with Agnes, all in an effort to drop 15 lbs for the dance on April 14th. Wish me luck! Since we're both Puteri Lilin, we went around 6pm.

Rasheed was SOOO mean when we were kids cos he used to scare the heck out of me about walking on the grass. (YES, I STILL REMEMBER!!!) I actually believed that anyone caught stepping on the grass would kena rotan and used to wait fearfully for a cage to drop down and trap perpetrators. I was very young. And very gullible.

Went shopping with Mrs A for Christmas decor and a tree at The Mall and Jaya. I've always wanted to decorate a tree, so here's a childhood dream come true!

The naked kids are worth a whole entry. This time we were driving thru Kiulap round the Thien Thien chicken rice block, when we saw a group of naked kids hanging out outside Giordano's.

Our favourite hang-out used to be this sidewalk cafe in Bandar. We loved it cos of the laid-back environment -and they served our favourite hot honey lemon. The last time we went there was when third wife Mrs A. was gonna leave for India. It was so nice having all my wives together...heheh
